About this game

Transform a blank 90s desktop into a powerful OS through minigames, task management puzzles, and a rewarding prestige reset loop.

If you remember what it felt like to boot up a computer in the late nineties and just poke around out of sheer curiosity, this project captures that exact nostalgia. You begin with practically nothing on your screen except a basic Start menu and a single icon, leaving you to gradually earn and unlock everything else piece by piece.

Gameplay

Progression starts from a completely blank slate with only one icon to your name, tasking you with expanding your capabilities and generating funds until your setup transforms into something remarkable.

Task Manager requires you to keep an eye on active processes and shut down troublesome tasks before they cause system instability. Meanwhile, the Defragment tool turns routine drive maintenance into an engaging puzzle where you rearrange scattered blocks before chaos takes over.

File management demands quick thinking as you sort files into their proper folders to prevent your inbox from overflowing. When threats emerge, the Security Center shifts gears entirely into an arcade shooter where your firewall acts as a turret blasting incoming malware.

When you have pushed your current setup as far as it can possibly go, you can choose to reboot. While this resets your immediate cash and locks your programs again, your accumulated experience, stat growth, and a separate skill tree carry forward permanently to make subsequent runs much faster.

What stands out

Every single window, button, and progress bar is meticulously styled to mirror the classic operating systems many of us grew up using. You can also unlock a variety of custom wallpapers and cursors to truly make the desktop feel like your own.

The game accommodates multiple concurrent setups through three separate save slots accessed directly from a proper login screen whenever you launch the software, allowing you to start fresh builds whenever you want.

Who might enjoy it

This experience is tailor-made for anyone who has fond memories of spending lazy afternoons clicking around an old desktop interface just to see what everything did.
