About this game

Take control of disposable mechs in Husk Protocol, a first-person roguelite deckbuilder where you salvage gear to survive the city's

Humanity is down to its final attempt at survival, and you are the one tasked with initiating the Husk Protocol. You are stepping into a desperate conflict against a corrupted city mainframe that has turned everything against you. It is a high-stakes mission where the environment is hostile and the pressure is constant as you navigate through dangerous biomes to reach your objective.

Gameplay

You command powerful mechs known as Husks, each coming with its own distinct playstyle and set of passive abilities. Your success depends on how well you wield the unique decks and modules assigned to these machines. You will need to carefully select your cards to play to your mech's strengths while actively patching up its weaknesses, aiming to build devastating combinations that can turn the tide of battle.

The core of the experience revolves around the fact that your mech is essentially disposable. Health lost during combat is permanent, meaning your machine will eventually fail. When that happens, you don't just lose; you eject, salvage the cards and modules from your broken shell, and equip them to a fresh unit. This system of 'Husk Hopping' allows you to carry over your progress and create increasingly powerful, synergistic builds as you cycle through different machines.

Combat is a balancing act of risk and reward. You aren't just firing weapons; you are managing your Husk's internal state. You can choose to overheat your machine to play extra cards, but you do so at the direct cost of your own health. Alternatively, you can purge cards to generate shields or use daze and corrosion effects to control the battlefield. Every single turn asks you if you want to push your mech to the brink or play it safe.

What stands out

The game leans heavily into the idea that your equipment is temporary. Unlike many deckbuilders where you build one character over the course of a run, here you are constantly forced to abandon your current vessel. This ensures that no single build is permanent, and every time you are forced to eject, you are presented with a new opportunity to pivot your strategy in an entirely different direction.

Every Husk you pilot functions differently, providing a variety of passives and playstyles that keep the gameplay loop fresh. Because health is a finite, non-renewable resource for each individual unit, the game creates a unique tension where you are always aware of your impending failure. This makes the decision of when to eject and what parts to salvage a critical part of your overall success.

Who might enjoy it

If you enjoy deckbuilders that force you to constantly adapt your strategy on the fly, this is worth a look. It is designed for players who appreciate the roguelite loop of learning from each defeat and unlocking new tools to push further in subsequent runs. If you like the idea of managing a fragile resource and making tough tactical calls under pressure, you will find plenty to dig into here.
