About this game

Survive ten minutes of dark fantasy bullet hell in Twisted Survivors. Master unique heroes, reforge weapons, and brave the horde with

The world has fallen to a creeping darkness that has claimed everyone you once knew. Now, these lost souls return as a relentless, shambling horde, hunting you down in your hideout. Twisted Survivors drops you into this grim, dark fantasy bullet hell where your only goal is to endure the onslaught. You must keep moving and leveling up to survive until the tenth minute, when the true architect of this plague emerges to end your run personally.

Gameplay

In this bullet hell, your weapons fire automatically, leaving you free to focus entirely on positioning and survival. As you navigate the map, you must constantly gather experience to level up and improve your gear. You have five slots for weapons and five for rings, all of which can be upgraded. Once a weapon reaches its peak, you can reforge it into a powerful variant that helps you manage the increasingly dense waves of enemies.

The game is structured around a ten-minute clock. You face major threats at the three, six, and nine-minute marks, culminating in a boss fight at ten minutes. If you manage to survive past twelve minutes, you enter an endless overtime mode where the difficulty continues to scale. Between runs, you use collected embers to purchase permanent stat upgrades and unlock new survivors, each featuring a unique starting weapon and special ability.

The challenge intensifies as the horde grows thicker with every passing minute. When playing with others, the game scales the enemy count to match your group size, ensuring the pressure remains high. If a teammate falls, you can revive them by kneeling beside them for three seconds. The entire experience is built on a custom C++ codebase, delivering a crisp 480x270 pixel art aesthetic that scales cleanly to your display.

What stands out

What sets this apart is the sheer weight of the atmosphere and the specific design of the encounters. You aren't just fighting random mobs; you are facing a tide of enemies that have taken the faces of people you once knew. The pacing is dictated by the bells, with significant threats emerging at set intervals to test your progress, ensuring that every minute feels like a desperate struggle for survival.

The game distinguishes itself through its technical foundation, being written entirely in C++ without a standard game engine. This results in a single, streamlined executable that pairs hand-cut sprites with a gritty, gravel-voiced narrator. The narrative depth is also a standout, as each of the ten survivors carries a unique story that you can sit and listen to, adding a layer of lore to the relentless action.

Who might enjoy it

If you enjoy high-intensity bullet hells that demand constant movement and strategic character building, this is worth your attention. It is perfect for those who like unlocking new survivors and experimenting with deep weapon-reforging systems. The inclusion of online co-op for up to four players makes it a great pick if you want to tackle the thickening horde with friends, provided you can coordinate to keep each other on their feet.
