Welcome to Wonderland, a grim prison for the souls of the dead where everyone is branded a sinner. You step into the shoes of a girl who has lost her memories, only to be guided by the White Rabbit and given the name Alice. The stakes are absolute: the only way to escape this afterlife and return to your world is to defeat the Queen. It is a journey defined by mystery and the heavy burden of past regrets, forcing you to confront the painful histories of those you meet while searching for the truth behind this strange, lethal domain.
At its core, this is a roguelike action game where you must navigate the Queen's domain, avoiding traps and engaging in lethal combat with her royal army. A standout feature is the 'Wonder Dimension' that expands across the field whenever you slay an enemy. As this dimension grows, your abilities strengthen and the action accelerates. Your skill choices dictate how quickly this space expands and how your powers evolve, forcing you to adapt your battle strategy on the fly based on what you have acquired during your run.
Combat is further layered with a unique poker-style system. You collect five skill cards to form specific hands, and the strength of your combination directly determines the power of your attacks and tactics. You will need to decide which cards to hold and which hands to aim for to turn the tide of battle. When you defeat wayward souls, you can perform acts of repentance, transforming their sins into power-up items. These materials allow you to upgrade your weapons and accessories, ensuring that even if you lose your cards, you retain some progress for your next attempt.
The game provides flexibility in how you experience the action. You can toggle the camera between a close-up side-view and a wide overhead-view, and you have the option to turn the information UI on or off. This allows you to prioritize either total immersion in the world or a more data-heavy approach to your combat stats. Between the intense fights, you can take a moment to enjoy tea parties with your companions, where you might uncover surprising details about your foes or learn more about the characters' pasts.
The game stands out by blending its roguelike combat with a deeply personal narrative. By coming into contact with the sins of your companions, you gain the ability to witness the painful pasts they experienced. This isn't just flavor text; it is tied directly to the 'Repentance System,' where the tears of penitence from these souls become tangible power-ups. It creates a cycle where the story and the mechanics are inextricably linked, pushing you to uncover why the Queen created this world and what kind of fate awaits the victor.
If you enjoy roguelike action games that weave a heavy, narrative-driven atmosphere into their combat loops, this is worth keeping an eye on. It is designed for players who appreciate character-focused storytelling, as you will spend time learning about the regrets and penance of your companions during tea parties. If you like systems that reward tactical planning—like building poker hands for combat—and enjoy uncovering the dark secrets of a mysterious world, you will find plenty to dig into here.
